What an awesome trip. Marc and I went down to Rich's Last Resort just outside Duke, MO. This was our second trip to Rich's. The first time was in 2002. We were unaware that Rich had sold out and was no longer there, but we had a chance to meet the new owner's Terry & Tracy Johnson. Who were more than great Host. The season was over and the place was basically shut down. Us coming and paying for a one night camping spot was obviously not big business for them but you wouldn't have known it by the way they treated us. I would recommend their resort to anyone.
During the 2002 trip to Rich's I caught what was to be the largest Smallmouth Bass I would catch until 2009. Where I can now report that I have caught The largest Smallmouth that I personally have ever seen. This beautiful specimen of a Bronze Back is my largest YET!
The trip as a whole was awesome. The first day Marc caught a extremely nice Smallmouth on the very first cast. We both caught some nice fish but as a whole the first day was just okay. We caught several Smallmouth and quite a few Rock Bass. At camp that night we had a pretty good dinner and hung out by the fire. The night was crazy cold, Down into the 40's. The next morning we were up before sunrise getting ready for the day.
Marc started the day off perfect when going to the boat he slipped and fell into the frigid waters. Between the 40+ degree weather and wet clothes he was as you might figure happy as a Lark. Actually we both a a good laugh. I being the one that laughed the most of course. As for fishing the day started out like most for he and I. Marc catching most of the fish while I get the be the camera guy. As the day wore on things didn't seem as though they would change much either. He caught a very nice 15 1/2 Smallmouth while I sat back getting a little frustrated. He say's Okay brother now it's your turn. He pointed out a specific Rock and says there's a fish right over there with your name on it. We moved that direction and after just a few cast I laid into the BIG one.
Then as he stated it was my turn. I commenced to just slay'em. I went on a roll. Awesome fish one after another. It was one of those times when it was as though I could do no wrong. There was obviously nothing I was doing any different from that moment than from the 7 hours before it. It was just as we say my turn, and I thank God it was. What a great time. Here I sit in our boat looking out at some of the most awesome scenery you'd ever want to see, hanging with my best Bro and catching what is for me, Epic Bronze Backs....Just doesn't get any better than that...Here are some pictures of our trip, hope you enjoy them...Peace Out
